About the Faculty Advisory Council

Role of the Faculty Advisory Council

The Faculty Advisory Council (FAC) is to be the official voice of the faculty to the University Administration. After the Council has discussed matters and has arrived at a recommendation, the recommendation will be sent to the Administration. If necessary, the recommendation will be taken to the Vice President’s Council for further consideration. Recommendations of the FAC will be seriously considered in the decision-making process by the Administration, and decisions made regarding recommendations should be reported back in a timely manner to the FAC.

Relationship to University-wide Committees and Councils

The Administration and other University committees may seek advice and counsel of the FAC. Members of the FAC will be appointed as needed to University committees or councils. The FAC can recommend the formation of additional university standing committees or form ad hoc committees to the Council to investigate a particular problem.

Relationship to the Faculty

The FAC is regarded by the Administration as being representatives of the faculty, since its members are nominated by popular election. The Council should not consider itself to be a federation of college representatives. Each member represents the entire University and should respond to issues by giving careful consideration to their effect upon the University as a whole. FAC members, therefore, should vote according to their own judgment and not consider it to be their function merely to poll and vote the opinion of their department or college colleagues. After considering the attitudes and recommendations of the faculty as a whole, the FAC should act in the best interest of the university.
