Faculty Advisory Council News Release for 2015-2016 Proposals
The BYU Faculty Advisory Council (FAC) represents the ideas and concerns of the faculty to the administration. See what the FAC did on behalf of faculty in the 2015-2016 academic year and check back in the Fall to learn who represents your college on the FAC
2015-2016 FAC Proposals that have been approved and will be implemented:
- Student Evaluations for Online and Team-taught Courses will be adapted
- Peer Teaching Evaluations will complement student evaluations in frequency and depth
- Compilation of faculty benefits have been placed on a handout for easier reference
Issues that FAC will continue to study:
- Advancement of Associate Professors to Full Professors
- Training for Personnel Involved in Hiring and Promotion Decisions
- Family-related Issues, Including Flexibility in the CFS Clock and the Creation of a Family-friendly Handbook
FAC Representatives on University Committees that Impact Faculty:
Center for Teaching and Learning Advisory Committee
Professor Matthew Asplund, chair of the Center for Teaching and Learning Advisory Committee, reported on two initiatives:
- Reviewing questions of academic honesty related to on-line sites that provide a forum for the sharing of course materials, which, in all respects, generally remain the intellectual property of the creator of the material (this committee is working with the BYU Copyright Office)
- Actively pursuing the placement of a faculty representative on all decisions related to LearningSuite or the adoption of other on-line environments, such as Canvas.
Athletic Advisory Committee
Topics of interest include providing help for student athletes to succeed; analyzing relevance of the Honor Code to both LDS and non-LDS athletes; reviewing recruiting concerns; considering budgeting issues; and discussing future conference affiliation.
Commencement Committee & On-line Student Rating Committee
The Commencement Committee will not convene until February 9, 2017.
The newly created On-line Student Rating Committee is on temporary stand-by as they wait for clarifications regarding their charge from the administration.
Parking Committee
Developments of interest to campus infrastructure and traffic flow:
- Lack of parking around Heritage Halls
- Students parking in faculty lots (including cases where faculty have designated student vehicles for parking privileges under their name)
Refer to the FAC website for additional information, including organizations with whom the FAC worked closely during this period and the support of the administration.
