BYU Faculty Advisory Council Onboarding Summary

What is the FAC?
The Faculty Advisory Council (FAC) is composed of committed faculty members who support and advance the mission of Brigham Young University (BYU). Our primary role is to foster meaningful collaboration between faculty and university administration, working together to enhance the academic experience for faculty, staff, and students, while remaining firmly aligned with BYU’s mission.
The strength of the FAC lies in the engagement and dedication of its members. We are grateful for your willingness to serve and contribute to our campus community. As a council, we collectively determine which committees to establish and which issues to address. Members volunteer to chair these committees and guide their discussions and initiatives. Our charge is to actively listen to colleagues across campus, understand their perspectives on how our university community can be improved, and help bring relevant stakeholders together to identify solutions and recommend enhancements.
Each FAC cohort is unique, with approximately one-third of members rotating off the council each year upon completion of their three-year terms. We are committed to ensuring that every FAC member feels welcomed, valued, and supported. We also hope your experience on the council is fulfilling and impactful as we work toward strengthening BYU for all who learn and work here.

FAC Structure and Member Responsibilities
The Faculty Advisory Council (FAC) operates as a central committee supported by several subcommittees. Our purpose is to collaborate with university administration on issues that impact faculty and other BYU stakeholders, including students and staff. In partnership with the BYU Integrity and Compliance Office, we also review and provide feedback on both new and revised university policies on a rolling basis, which may occasionally include summer sessions.
