Committee Co-Chair Responsibilities
Committee co-chairs play a vital leadership role and are responsible for:
- Organizing and facilitating committee efforts in coordination with the AVP Council.
- Leading regular committee meetings (usually two per month) and maintaining momentum throughout the year.
- Attending monthly Executive Committee and full FAC meetings.
- Collaborating with the appropriate AVP Council member whose responsibilities align with the committee's focus area.
- Preparing a year-end report that:
- Summarizes the committee’s activities, findings, and progress over the year; and
- Recommends any changes or actions the committee believes are necessary to effectively address the issue(s) it explored.
Qualities of Effective Committee Co-Chairs
According to past FAC members, the most effective co-chairs typically:
- Proactively organize the committee’s early discussions and planning.
- Schedule and lead regular meetings, using tools like Outlook to manage calendars.
- Demonstrate realistic expectations, strong organization, and a supportive leadership style.
- Delegate responsibilities and follow up on progress.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with committee members.
- Facilitate inclusive, productive discussions that engage all participants.
- Reach out to relevant campus units or stakeholders who share similar interests or concerns.
