Committee Co-Chair Responsibilities

Committee co-chairs play a vital leadership role and are responsible for:

  • Organizing and facilitating committee efforts in coordination with the AVP Council.
  • Leading regular committee meetings (usually two per month) and maintaining momentum throughout the year.
  • Attending monthly Executive Committee and full FAC meetings.
  • Collaborating with the appropriate AVP Council member whose responsibilities align with the committee's focus area.
  • Preparing a year-end report that:
  1. Summarizes the committee’s activities, findings, and progress over the year; and
  2. Recommends any changes or actions the committee believes are necessary to effectively address the issue(s) it explored.

Qualities of Effective Committee Co-Chairs

 According to past FAC members, the most effective co-chairs typically:

  • Proactively organize the committee’s early discussions and planning.
  • Schedule and lead regular meetings, using tools like Outlook to manage calendars.
  • Demonstrate realistic expectations, strong organization, and a supportive leadership style.
  • Delegate responsibilities and follow up on progress.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with committee members.
  • Facilitate inclusive, productive discussions that engage all participants.
  • Reach out to relevant campus units or stakeholders who share similar interests or concerns.
